Best Vacuum for Pet Hair: SEBO, Riccar & Simplicity
A dog on the rug, a cat on the sofa, and hair along the baseboards: a pet household asks a vacuum to do several different jobs. The best vacuum for pet hair is the one that handles your surfaces comfortably and is straightforward to maintain. A “pet” label alone does not tell you that.
Our starting shortlist includes the SEBO Felix and X7, Riccar SupraLite uprights, and the Simplicity S20EZM. These are recommendations based on features and intended use, not a claim that we have run a head-to-head laboratory test.
Start with where the hair collects
| Your priority | Start here | Check during a demonstration |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet plus hard floors | SEBO Felix Premium | Steering, changing floorheads and carrying comfort |
| Carpet-focused cleaning | SEBO Automatic X7 | Automatic height adjustment on your carpet type |
| A floor-focused lightweight upright | Riccar SupraLite Premium R10P | Handling and your separate plan for furniture and stairs |
| A straightforward bagged upright with tools | Simplicity S20EZM | Hose reach, height settings and tool use |
SEBO Felix or X7: choose by floor plan
The Felix combines swivel steering with a manually adjustable ET-1 powerhead. Its brush can be switched off, and the Premium package includes a parquet brush. That makes it a useful model to try when you move between carpet and hard flooring. Its removable brush roller also gives you access for routine hair cleanup.
The X7 takes a different approach: automatic brush-height adjustment, an integrated hose and wand, and tool-free roller removal. For a home with substantial carpet, those features make it worth a demonstration. Match the exact X7 package to your needs; accessory bundles are not identical.
Where Riccar and Simplicity fit
Riccar’s SupraLite R10P uses a self-sealing HEPA media bag and a 40-foot cord. Put it on your list if you want to concentrate on floor cleaning and prefer an upright’s handling. If most of your pet hair is on upholstery, ask which separate tool or companion machine you would use rather than assuming every upright has an onboard hose.
The Simplicity S20EZM pairs a HEPA media bag and filter with a telescoping wand, onboard tools and five height settings. It is a sensible model to compare when you want a conventional bagged upright and above-floor tools in the same machine. Try the hose at the distance you actually need, especially for stairs.
HEPA filters: look beyond the label
Hair pickup and fine-particle filtration are different jobs. Ask how the vacuum captures debris, where air exits, and what happens when you empty it. A HEPA media bag or filter is a component description; it should not automatically be read as certification of the entire machine.
SEBO describes the Felix’s filtration as S-class. That is not a reason to relabel it HEPA. Ask which filter system is supplied with the exact vacuum you are buying, how often its filters need attention, and which replacements fit. No vacuum choice should be treated as a promise to eliminate allergy symptoms.
“Tangle-free” brushes still deserve a closer look
Easy-to-remove and anti-tangle are different features. The first makes hair easier to clear after it wraps; the second describes a design intended to reduce wrapping during use. Do not assume the SEBO, Riccar or Simplicity models above have a self-cleaning brush simply because they are recommended for pet hair.
Ask to see the roller-access procedure, and check the manual before removing hair or servicing the brush. Disconnect power first. Long human hair, threads and pet fur can all make regular inspection worthwhile.
Bring these questions to the showroom
- Where is the hair hardest to remove: carpet, furniture, stairs or the car?
- Does the package include the upholstery tool you need?
- Can you comfortably turn, carry and store the machine?
- What will bags, filters and brush maintenance involve?
Pet-hair vacuum FAQs
Does a “pet” vacuum always clean better?
No. That label may refer to an accessory bundle or an odor-control feature. Compare the floorhead and included tools, not just the name.
Should I buy a Bissell pet vacuum instead?
If a particular Bissell is on your shortlist, bring its exact model number. Compare its floorhead, tools, filtration information and maintenance instructions against the dealer models you are considering. A brand-wide verdict would hide important model differences.
Is bagged better for a shedding pet?
A bagged design can make disposal convenient, but bag capacity and replacement costs still matter. Compare the emptying process with a bagless machine before deciding which routine you prefer.
